Prince George resident Janet Renquist is among the 35 people named as this years recipients of the B.C. Community Achievement Awards.
A refugee from Uganda who moved to Canada in 1989, Renquist is known for her ongoing help of immigrant and refugee families who have settled in northern B.C.
She is a founding member of the African Heritage Society and considered a valued supporter and resource for the Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society of Prince George.
The awards honour individuals who have made a significant contribution either as volunteers or in the course of their work. Recipients will be recognized in a formal presentation at Government House in Victoria on March 14.
Each will receive a certificate and a medallion designed by B.C. artist Robert Davidson.
