Tailgate thefts prompt warning

Pick-up truck owners are being urged to lock their tailgates following a sprees of thefts of the item.

On Wednesday, Prince George RCMP received reports of five such thefts, Cpl. Craig Douglass said, beginning in the morning and going late into the evening - two of them from the parking lot at College of New Caledonia and one each from University of Northern British Columbia, Prince George Secondary School and CN Centre.

Late-model Dodge, Ford and Toyota pickups have been targeted.

"Given the weight and size of these tailgates, more than one person is likely responsible for the thefts and a vehicle is likely being used," Douglass said. "The investigation into these thefts is continuing."
