RCMP shake down Greyhound cargo

After members of the Peace Region Traffic Services pulled over a vehicle for speeding on Jan. 25 and later charged a male and two females with drug trafficking charges, little did they realize that the search was not over.

More charges have been laid in a Fort St. John case where a search of the vehicle lead to the seizure of 705 grams of marijuana, six ounces of cocaine, more than $13,000 in cash, a knife, a crowbar and a can of bear spray.

During the search, RCMP officers also located a shipping receipt in the vehicle for a package sent through the Greyhound Bus Depot addressed to a recipient in Chilliwack.

The package was sent by one of the accused who was in police custody.

The traffic member suspected there may have been more contraband sent via Greyhound and requested the package be intercepted by Chilliwack RCMP and held pending a search warrant.

Chilliwack RCMP located the package, which was identified as a suitcase, at the bus station. A search warrant was granted and police located $13,000 in cash concealed in a container inside the suitcase.

RCMP are continuing their investigation into this matter. Originally RCMP recommended charges of possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking against a 17-year-old male and female and an 18-year-old female, all from the Fort St. John area.
