Police investigate crash at Whiskers Point

The driver of a cube van was taken to Mackenzie hospital with non life-threatening injuries after losing control while trying to pass a semi truck Thursday morning on an icy Highway 97 near Whiskers Bay Resort.

The driver of the semi truck was uninjured in the subsequent crash, North District RCMP Const. Lesley Smith said.

“Thankfully both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the incident, which prevented serious injuries or worse, a fatality," Smith said.

The stretch was closed completely for about 30 minutes and then reopened to single lane traffic.

RCMP are asking all drivers to exercise extra caution as area roads are extremely icy due to the recent rain and freezing temperatures.
