A charge has been laid against the driver of a stolen vehicle that went off road near Highway 97 on Saturday, killing an adult female passenger.

Kelly James Grainger, a 42-year-old Prince George resident, is being charged with impaired driving causing death and is in custody.

Emergency services responded to the collision just after 6 a.m. on Jan. 26. The female passenger, Lavinia Pearl Harrison, 51 years old, was dead at the scene while the driver was extracted by first responders and transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The vehicle, a 2012 Ford Escape, was confirmed to have been stolen from a location in Prince George on Jan. 15.

Investigators are requesting any members of the public that may have witnessed the collision or the white Ford Escape just before the collision, are asked to contact the Prince George RCMP at (250)561-3300 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1(800)222-8477, online at www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca, or Text-A-Tip to CRIMES (274637) using keyword "pgtips".
