CN Rail hopes to have the track reopened by late Wednesday morning following a train derailment about 13 kilometres west of McBride.
"Multiple" cars carrying steel-making coal hopped the track at about 10:40 a.m. Tuesday, said CN Rail spokeswoman Emily Hamer, who added there were no injuries, no dangerous commodities involved and no environmental issues.
"The current expectation is that traffic can resume normally through the affected area within approximately 24 hours [of the derailment]," Hamer said.
The incident impeded traffic running between Jasper and Prince Rupert but a number of trains had already passed the point before the derailment occurred and were on their way to their destinations, "so minimal impact to customer operations," Hamer said.
