P.G. judokas shine with Team B.C.

Of the eight Prince George athletes competing at the Saskatchewan Open in Regina last weekend with Team B.C., five returned home with medals.

After Saturday's event, Prince George Judo Club members Taylor Schaus and Kyle Wilkinson won gold medals in the under-15 boys, -34 and -55 kilograms categories, respectively. Other gold medals were earned by Hart Judo Academy athletes Taylor Rowland in the under-15 girls, -57 kg division and Lavanna Laass in the under-18 girls, -52 kg.

The final medalist was Grace Northrop of the Hart Judo Academy with a silver medal in the under-18 girls, -52 kg division.

In total Team BC captured 14 gold, four silver and one bronze medal.

Team BC coaches included Bruce Kamstra of Hart Judo and Aline Strasdin of Prince George Judo. The other Hart Judo competitors with Team BC were Melissa Nelson, Nathaniel Hirvi and Chris Grilz.

The next competition for Prince George athletes is Feb. 16 at the Pacific International Junior and Senior Championship in Richmond. The Judo BC Youth Championship will be held in Prince George March 9.
