Polars shoot to top in Kamloops

Perfection is alive at Prince George Secondary.

The PGSS Polars senior girls basketball team improved to 20-0 in the double-A high school season last weekend when they won the Sahali Senior Girls tournament in Kamloops, defeating the host Sahali Sabres 57-40 in the final of the 12-team event. Mavia Nijjer led the Polars with 19 points while Jill Cole downed 16 in the final.

Third place at in the senior girls tournament went to the Duchess Park Condors, who finished with a 3-1 record, losing only their semifinal game to the Sabres 56-48 despite Carly Shaw-MacLaren's 16 points. The College Heights Cougars finished 10th at 1-2, dropping their final game to Princess Margaret 65-40.

Nijjer was selected as senior girls tournament MVP while the Polars Emily Aase, Condors Cassie Rerrick and Cougars Chantel Nicholson were named to the all-star team.

The tournament in Kamloops also featured a girls junior A division, which saw the Duchess Park Condors claim the top spot.
