Cariboo Cats shine as all-stars

Cariboo Cougars players left their tracks all over the Major Midget League all-star game.

The B.C. Hockey showcase contest was played Friday night in Langley and saw Team White defeat Team Red 6-2. Five members of the Cougars participated in the game, three for White and two for Red.

In the Team White victory, Cariboo forward Liam Blackburn contributed one goal and one assist and was named the second star. Ryan Forbes of the Cougars -- chosen as Team White captain -- added two assists, while Cariboo defenceman Nick Headrick was solid in his own zone and helped limit the Team Red scoring opportunities.

Meanwhile, Cougars forward Braiden Epp scored one of the Team Red goals and goaltender Nathan Warren was strong between the pipes in the second period. Facing wave after wave of Team White shooters, he allowed just two goals and even picked up an assist offensively.

Cougars defenceman Stephen Penner was also selected to play in the all-star contest but ended up being ineligible because of a one-game suspension he was handed during a league game last Sunday against the North Island Silvertips.

Cariboo head coach Trevor Sprague served as an assistant for Team White and trainer Rick Brown was also on the staff.

Sprague remained undefeated as a coach in MML all-star games.
