Free workshops bring artist and audience together


Diyet, an aboriginal artist, is offering a free Coldsnap Music Festival workshop about Inspiration and Inclusion at the Gathering Place at UNBC Monday, Jan. 21 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Coldsnap Music Festival 2013 will once again present a series of free workshops open to all members of the community.

The workshops bring artists together with audience to discuss how music can be used to promote community, understanding and well-being between cultures and communities and just to have fun.

East Coast step dancing and Highland dancing, presented by Troy MacGillivray and King Crow takes place at the Connaught Youth Centre, 1491 Seventh Ave., from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

There's an open mic at and organized by Youth Around Prince, 1160 Seventh Ave., Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. featuring Current Swell and Shred Kelly.

With the theme of inspiration and inclusion, Don Amero will present a workshop at the Firepit, 1563 Second Ave., Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Diyet will also present a workshop about inspiration and inclusion at the Gathering Place at UNBC Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., presented by UNBC Native Studies.

Self -esteem through songwriting will be presented by artist Linda McRae and sponsored by the Elizabeth Fry Society. The workshop will be held Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Family Resource Centre, 1200 LaSalle Ave. Registration is required due to limited seating. To register call Christine at 250-614-9440.

Ewan Dobson will hold a fingerpicking demonstration at and presented by Long & McQuade, 356 George St., Wednesday from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend the workshop.

There's a songwriting circle at Cafe Voltaire, in Books & Co., 1685 Third Ave., Wednesday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Cafe Voltaire with Dala and Jake Morley that is presented by the CBC.

There's a lunchtime concert featuring Matt Epp at and presented by Nancy O's, 1261 Third Ave., from noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25.

Pharis and Jason Romero and Daniel Lapp will present a storytelling demonstration at Knox United Church, 1448 Fifth Ave., Saturday, Jan. 26 from 1 to 3 p.m. This event is presented by the Prince George Folk Festival Society, organizer of the Coldsnap Music Festival.
