Rush for gold ends in silver

The Prince George Rush won five of six games on the way to a silver medal at a weekend ringette tournament in Richmond.

The Rush, an open team formed by players in the 16 to 24 age range, clashed with North West Vancouver in the final of the Richmond Ringette Classic and settled for a 5-4 loss. Earlier in the tournament, Prince George had little trouble with North West Vancouver in an 8-1 victory.

In its other games, the Rush edged Vancouver 6-5, beat Burnaby 6-4 and, in the semifinals, skated past Surrey 5-4.

Members of the Rush are Rory Bird, Aimee Qualizza, Kristen Toombs, Stephanie Crandell, Layne Ongman, Janelle Tuninga, Justine Lamothe, Nikki LeBlanc, Daniella Salazar, Sara Engler, Whitney Wilson, Nicole Crandell, Stephaney Thompson, Caitlin Zacharias and goaltender Lisa Matzelle.

The Rush will be in Edmonton on Feb. 1 for the start of the annual Silver Ring tournament.
