What do you get when you take 68 dozen eggs, 70 packages of bacon, seven large bags of pancake mix, four gallons of syrup, 178 silent auction items... put them together amidst 460 plus people who share in generosity and spirit to help David Smith and family? What you get is a community that raised $18,015.
“Community”, includes our Beaverly community plus Prince George residents, because David’s friends and connections are widespread throughout the city including his lacrosse and football friends, high school and elementary friends, and fellow employees from past and present occupations. In addition his parents Linda and Orville ‘s past and present volunteer and professional people wanting to support them at this difficult time, and that has people donating from all over B.C. With Frank Peebles who caressed a tragic story into a touching article informing Prince George and those all over B.C. who read it on line, he touched the hearts of even those who had never met the Smiths, yet they phoned and wanted to know how they could help. It all contributed to an amazing turnout.
We are so grateful for the many volunteers and volunteer firefighters who donated their day to cook breakfast, setup and clean up after nearly 500 people and manage the silent auction, which was anything but silent.
In our early thoughts of the fundraiser, Beaverly Fire/Rescue Fire Chief Bruce Perrin was quick to offer use of the Beaverly Fire Hall to us. Donations and volunteers are too many to mention but during and since the Pancake breakfast on Sunday, the feedback of those that attended include the feeling of positive and gratifying energy radiating from all that were involved.
We are grateful to live in a city and community that digs deep into their hearts to support David Smith after his traumatic motor vehicle accident Nov. 13, requiring him to be airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital where he is presently recovering and preparing to begin a lengthy rehabilitation at G.F. Strong in Vancouver. This fundraiser will most definitely assist David on his road to recovery, and enable Linda, Orville and David’s sister Crystal to visit more frequently to support him. Linda and Smitty have lots of exciting news about the day to share with David on their next trip to see him, in the near future.
