One dead in New Year's Eve collision

A New Year's Eve collision has claimed the life of one person and has sent another to hospital with serious injuries.

Police said the incident occurred just after 5 p.m. on Highway 97 North near Wall Road when a southbound vehicle cross the centre line and into the paths of two northbound vehcles.

The driver of the southbound was pronounced dead on scene and the passenger was sent to hospital in serious condition.

The stretch was closed for several hours following the crash.

RCMP have not yet released the name of the deceased.
