Highway shut down at Isle Pierre Monday afternoon

A jacknifed truck closed Highway 16 West to traffic in both directions at Isle Pierre for about three hours Monday afternoon.

Because there was no access from Prince George, a tow truck had to be called in from Vanderhoof, Prince George RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass said, although it was expected the highway would be reopened to single-lane alternating by 4:30 p.m.

The incident occurred at about 1:30 p.m., Douglass said, shortly after a chip truck went off the highway in the same vicinity but left traffic unaffected.

Douglass also said Monday the Prince George RCMP's municipal traffic enforcement section and the Ministry of Transportation's commercial vehicle safety and enforcement branch

will be conducting "targeted traffic enforcement" this week.

They will be out looking for defective and modified vehicles and that includes vehicles without the proper tires for winter conditions.

"Absolutely, they'll be looking at tires, for sure," Douglass said.
