I've been a hockey fan all my life and I never thought I'd ever see the day when I would say fold the NHL and start a complete new league with realistic wages.
During the 2011-12 season, the team salary cap was $64.3 million, with top paid players ranging from $9 million to $14 million. In 2007, the average team salary was approximately $50 million with a median salary of $1 million and the highest player making $7.5 million.
Why are these players striking when they have the gall to go play for far less paying leagues during their strike and take the wage away from some other player who needs the money?
I love hockey but hate what has been done to the game. These players should be given the option of a new league with top salary of $2.5 million and the lowest wage of $120,000 per year, which I think is a generous wage.
If they do not want to play for that then they should find another job that pays more.
