Mr. P.G. returns to watch over Prince George today.

The eight-metre-tall icon was moved from his perch at the southwest corner of Highway 16 and Highway 97 mid-September to get a little work done.

Now, refreshed and refurbished, Mr. P.G. will resume his post from the opposite side of Highway 16, next to the Prince George Playhouse.

"He doesn't look any different," promised Tourism Prince George CEO Aiden Kelly. "He's just looks a lot nicer and cleaner."

Mr. P.G. went under the knife at Prism Powder Coating and Custom Paint and Allnorth Consultants provided the engineering for a new base.

It has been nearly 30 years since the landmark was placed at its previous location and has been on its lonesome ever since Tourism Prince George closed the visitor centre at the site last year.

When he came down in September, Kelly said there was some concern from the public.

"There were a lot of questions and people that were worried when he came down at first because they weren't aware that he was going back up right on the other side of the road," he said.

During the process of Mr. P.G.'s relocation, a time capsule was extracted from his frame, with items dating back to July 25, 1983.

It included travel guides, postcards, community newsletters, a radio broadcast cassette tape, newspaper articles and a letter from Elmer Mercier, who was mayor at the time.

For the next two weeks, these items will be on display at the Tourism Prince George visitor centre (1300 First Ave.).
