It was a golden weekend for the senior girls volleyball team at College Heights secondary.
The CHSS Cougars travelled to Vernon where they took park in a tournament hosted by Vernon secondary. The Cougars lost only one set finishing with a 6-0 record to win the gold.
In the round robin, the Cougars beat Fulton secondary of Vernon (25-22, 27-25), Williams Lake (25-12, 25-9) and Selkirk of Kimberly (25-12, 25-19). They knocked off L.V. Rogers of Nelson in the quarterfinal, 25-17, 25-9, before beating Fulton in the semifinal, 25-15, 25-14.
In the final, the Cougars upset the triple-A No. 2 ranked Vernon secondary 2-1 (16-25, 25-19 and 15-12). The Cougars are a double-A school.
MVP for the Cougars in the tournament was setter Courtney Crellin.

In junior A girls volleyball, it was the Prince George secondary Polars turn to host last weekend. The D.P. Todd Trojans advanced to the final after surviving a thrilling three-set marathon semifinal with the College Heights Cougars, 2-1 (25-22, 24-26 and 19-17). In the final though, the Trojans were no match for the Duchess Park Condors. The Condors swept the final, 25-18, 25-19, to win gold.
The Cougars emerged with the bronze medal after defeating the Kelly Road Roadrunners senior B team - invited to take part in the tournament after an out-of-town school was unable to attend - in three sets, 25-27, 25-19 and 15-8.
The tournament MVP was Emily Holmes of the Condors while all-stars were, Laurissa Saunders (Roadrunners), Jenna Sutton (Trojans) and Maddie Doucette (Cougars).

Meanwhile, the Condors streak of wins (volleyball and cross country) continued at D.P. Todd secondary where the junior A boys volleyball tournament was taking place.
The Condors beat the Cougars in the final 2-1 (25-21, 25-27 and 15-13) of the 10-team event.
