B.C. not a province apart

In his guest editorial in the October 16th Citizen, Tex Enemark clearly sets out that business people in the rest of Canada do not “get” the unique nature of B.C. politics and culture. With his wide knowledge and experience, I think we should all take this opinion seriously.

Interestingly, this is the same argument made by those promoting the “special nature” of Quebec.

In other words, we are somehow different from the useful, productive, entrepreneurial and hard-working people in the part of Canada roughly defined as the region between the Ontario-Quebec border and the Alberta-B.C. one.

The real result of these disparate regional attitudes is that the people “in the middle” are producing the prosperity and wealth while we, in general, consume it. Of course, this also means that they would be far richer if they did not have to carry such relatively unproductive whiners on their backs.

We can only hope they don’t figure that out.
