Farmers' Market celebrates

The Prince George Farmer's Market will celebrate the move to its new permanent home with live music and giveaways on Oct. 20.

The new location at 1074 6th Avenue will allow the market to have the same venue for both its outdoor season in the summer and indoor season in the winter. Volunteers have spent the summer renovating the new building so that it can accommodate more than 25 local vendors.

The move was necessitated when the market's lease expired at its former indoor location at Third Avenue and George Street expired in May.

As part of the celebrations to open the new facility and the first indoor market of the season, the market will give away free pumpkins to children and have a draw for a basket valued at $200.

This coming Saturday the market will host its final outdoor session of the year across from the Prince George Courthouse.

Approximately 85 different vendors take part in the market over the course of the year, however most of them are seasonal. At the new indoor facility, some vendors will attend every week, but there are also spots set aside for others to rotate in and out.
