House arrest issued to pot grower

One of a "hat trick" of police takedowns of marijuana grow operations in June 2010 has led to an 18 month conditional sentence for a man who was apprehended at one of the scenes.

Hang Thi Huynh was issued the term - effectively house arrest rather than formal jail time - in Prince George provincial court on Wednesday for production of a controlled substance.

Huynh was arrested on June 24, 2010 after police discovered 900 plants at a home on the 30000 block of Chief Lake Road. Combined with the dried product found at the location, an estimated $450,000 to $600,000 worth of marijuana was seized at the scene, according to police.

It was the first of three operations Mounties uncovered in a single day.

They also seized 100 plants, worth $50,000 to $75,000, from a 4100 block Austin Road West home and 800 plants plus 450 clones, worth $625,000 to $937,500, from a 3300 Emile Crescent property.

In April, Della Verle Maier was sentenced to nine months house arrest from the Austin Road bust while charges against two people arrested at the Emile Crescent property were stayed in July.
