Around our schools

Southridge Elementary School will be hosting a parent open house and book sale on Thursday Sept. 27. The first Southridge Parent Advisory Council meeting of the school year will follow. The PAC meeting will start at 7:00 p.m.

The annual Terry Fox Run at Southridge Elementary School will take place on Thursday Sept 27 at 1:30. The school will be collecting pennies for the Terry Fox Foundation up until the 27th. The students will have the chance to win a Terry Fox t-shirt and the opportunity to lead the run.

Valemount Elementary and Secondary Schools entered the new school year with the support of the school board to move to focus on "mountain schools". The mountain focus makes use of the natural surroundings and includes outdoor activities, nature studies and local history.

Valemount Elementary School is currently working on the idea of "waste-free" lunches.

The Grades 6/7 students at Valemont Elementary spent an afternoon at Swift Creek studying this important ecosystem. They will also be investigating the marsh and forest. There is also a parent presentation planned around the topic of "Helping your child be successful through restitution".

The District 57 Tapestry Singers are inviting students entering Grades 7-12 to join their choir. Registration closes Thursday Sept 27th. For more information please Director, Carolyn Duerksen at cduerk...@sd57.bc.ca

The first public meeting of the 2012/2013 school year for School District 57 trustees takes place on Tuesday Sept. 25 at the Board offices, 2100 Ferry Aven. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. The proceedings may also be followed online by connecting through the links provided on the school district website at www.sd57.bc.ca on the day of the meeting.
