Love Never Gets Old is an ongoing series looking at love, sex and romance among Prince George seniors.
Unless you're dead, it's never too late to date, said one local dating service owner.
Lisa Mueller of HizHer Dating Club said most people are surprised to find out how many seniors are still actively dating, looking for that special someone.
"At least half my clients are 55 or older and the older people are definitely more active than they used to be," said Mueller, a relationship consultant. "I've got 80 year olds and you'd never guess their age by how they act or how they look. They're living very active lives and dating is still a high priority on their list."
Mueller said the need to pair up and share your life with someone never gets old. It's human nature, she added. A good example is the Prince George Plenty of Fish site where there's 208 men and 205 women over 55 who are registered right now.
"I send these 70-year-olds on a coffee date and it's like they're little kids again and it's great," said Mueller. "It's all so high school and I'm getting calls and texts before they go on the date to ask what they should be saying and it's so cool to see that love will never die no matter what age you're at. I just love it."
It really gives people something to look forward to and the wish of finding love can come true, she added.
"I find about half my clients are a bit shy at the beginning but the other half are already actively dating online and just aren't having any luck," said Mueller, whose application process involves a personal interview with her.
When doing any online dating, her advice is to always have a nice, current photo on your profile.
"It's like a gateway and it's the first thing people see," said Mueller.
When people are getting back into the dating world, there's more coaching and guidance needed.
"I find with the 50 plus people, they need a lot of prepping," said Mueller. "I find a lot of them have been widowed for a good five years, some have taken on a new career and moved to Prince George and they just haven't had any luck meeting someone."
Start on a light note, she suggested, and never talk about your ex on the first date and put away the cell phone.
"Start with a 40-minute coffee date, you don't want anything heavier than that," she said. "You just want to know if you connect with that person. It's just coffee! Talk about your likes, your don't likes, your career."
It's never too late for love.
"The seniors I help are just very excited about the process," said Mueller. "There's hope there and they're very excited about the prospect of finding love again and that's kinda cool."
