Prolific offender gets 60 days

A man police say is a prolific offender has been sentenced to 60 days in jail.

Dale Allan West, 32, received the term Thursday for an Aug. 9 incident in which he tried to flee police when a member of the Prince George RCMP's crime reduction team spotted him near Eighth Avenue and Burden Street carrying what was believed to be stolen property.

When the member tried to arrest him, West fled and soon abandoned his bike. Police cordoned off the area and, with the help of a tracking dog, West was apprehended at Fifth and Central.

West was sentenced for willfully resisting arrest and possession of stolen property under $5,000.

In the previous 20 months, West has been convicted of two counts each of theft $5,000 or under, possession of stolen property under $5,000 and one count each of assault, driving without a licence, uttering threats and resisting arrest.

The Aug. 9 arrest came two days after he had been added to the Prince George RCMP's prolific offender list.
