Cops tight-lipped on possible shooting

Incident may be linked to standoff that began Sunday

RCMP refused to comment Monday on unconfirmed reports of a gunshot victim at the scene of a standoff in the Pineview area.

Medical sources indicated at least one injured.

A police perimeter was set up around a house in the Pineview area Sunday morning in the vicinity of Pinko Road and Alpine Drive.

“We have been over 30 hours dealing with this, and it goes on,” said Douglass.

The Emergency Response Team was called in to help attending officers secure the scene.

“It was an ongoing investigation that drew us to the area and gave us the desire to speak with this individual. It is involving someone known to police,” Douglass said.

That person did not co-operate with requests to speak with police.

“We are exercising extreme caution in dealing with this individual, using whatever resources we need to continue the incident towards a resolution,” Douglass said Monday afternoon. “We do not believe there is a threat to the public. We are letting the investigation guide the officers.”

It was not disclosed if any sort of threat had been uttered, if police had obtained warrants to enter the property, or if other people were believed to be on the property.

The nature of the initial investigation was also not disclosed, nor the identity of the man or woman of initial interest.
