Firefighters take the boots to Muscular Dystrophy

The Muscular Dystrophy Canada annual Boot Drive saw Prince George firefighters raise $23,088.73, exceeding the $20,000 goal.

Stationed outside several locations throughout Prince George over the weekend, local firefighters used their boots to collect money from local residents.

Since 1964, the Prince George firefighters have held a Boot Drive, raising funds each year towards research and treatment for those suffering from MD, which encompasses 150 types of neuromuscular disorders characterized by the wasting and progressive weakness of muscles. There is no cure for the disease.

"Thanks to all who donated so we can make this amazing donation to Muscular Dystrophy Canada," said Shane Lapierre. "We would like to thank the stores who allowed us to collect the money at their locations and especially thank Tim Horton's for keeping the coffee coming to the firefighters as well as the ladies at the Integris Credit Union who volunteered to count the money for us."
