Dog burning case before court

Debra Holden appeared in a Grande Prairie courtroom yesterday.

The Fort St. John woman pleaded not guilty to charges related to the burning of two dogs, it has been reported. The 53 year old has been charged with two counts each of injuring or endangering animals and two counts of causing animals unnecessary suffering.

On July 7, Grande Prairie RCMP responded to a complaint at a campground near Grovedale, Alberta just before noon on July 7. They found dog remains and a kennel burning in a fire pit at a campsite.

Holden was arrested at that time.

A second dog may have also been injured in the incident but despite a search, it was not found. it is likely the dog would have died from its injuries, said the RCMP.

Holden is scheduled to re-appear in Grande Prairie court on Sept. 19.
