Calendar to feature local celebrities

Brent Braaten, Photographer

Artist Crystie Tarr paints the face of Mayor Shari Green for the Community Arts Council, library fundraising calender.

Faces are being painted for the arts calendar fundraiser for the Prince George and District Community Arts Council and the Prince George Library.

The process is an ongoing community effort with support from local artists and community leaders that have agreed to put their faces forward.

"The project is going very well and the artists' work on the human canvasses is incredible," said Lisa Repath, project coordinator for the arts council.

The theme for the project is literacy and local artists will put their creative take on references to literature, pop culture, arts, the environment and diversity.

Colin Kinsley is one of the 12 volunteers getting his face painted and the theme for the work done on his face is Alice in Wonderland.

"Lisa is my friend and that's why I agreed to be involved with the project," said Kinsley, smiling like the Cheshire Cat, intent on following instructions as local artist Cara Roberts worked on painting his face.

Straight from the artist's chair, into the photography studio of Alex Zander, Kinsley's photo will grace the pages of the calendar that includes local celebrities like Colleen Sparrow, Prince George Citizen publisher and Shirley Gratton, former city councilor and former Citizen of the Year.

Proceeds from the project will be divided equally between the library and arts council with the library's funds going towards the development of the Knowledge Garden and the arts council's into general programming.

The $25 calendar is in its pre-sale stage and can be ordered at the Prince George Library by calling 250-563-9251. The calendar will be available in October.
