Name of fatal crash victim released

Larry Dallas Barry Laurent, 17, of Prince George has been confirmed as the passenger who died in a fiery Aug. 16 crash near Quesnel.

Laurent died at the scene, the B.C. Coroners Service said Tuesday, after the car he was in went off the road on the Nazko Highway, went down a steep embankment and hit a large tree stump.

Police were called to the scene near Long Road at about 2:30 a.m. where they found the vehicle engulfed in flames.

The driver, whose name was not released, was transported to Quesnel's G.R. Baker Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries, then transported to Quesnel RCMP cells.

He was later released on a promise to appear in Quesnel provincial court on Oct. 16.
