Coroner on bank
RCMP and the B.C. Coroner's office retrieved a body from the Fraser River downstream of Wiens Road after a body was reported floating past Ft. George Park at 2 p.m. Sunday.

The BC Coroners Service is on scene along the banks of the Fraser River following a grisly discovery at Fort George Park.

Around 2 p.m. Sunday, Prince George RCMP received a report from a witness at the park of what appeared to be a dead body floating in the river.

"Officers immediately followed up and through a number of checks along the river were able to locate a deceased person," said Cp. Craig Douglass.

It was pulled from the water downstream near Lansdowne Road. The RCMP's forensic identification unit was also on scene.

Police are not releasing any details about the identity of the deceased. "It's too soon in the investigation," Douglass said. "We need to determine things first before further details follow."
