Schedule kind to Kings

Fans of the Prince George Spruce Kings will be spending a lot of Friday and Saturday nights in their favourite seats at the Coliseum.

The BC Hockey League released its 2012-13 regular-season schedule on Tuesday. In total, the Kings will play 21 home games on Friday and Saturday evenings. As well, the club will skate in three Sunday matinees and three Thursday night contests at the Coliseum.

The Kings will start the regular season with a pair of games in Chilliwack. As part of the BCHL Showcase, they'll take on the Merritt Centennials on Sept. 8 and the Langley Rivermen on Sept. 9.

The Kings' home-opening weekend is Sept. 14-15 and will see the Trail Smoke Eaters and Penticton Vees in town.

In a schedule pared from 60 games to 56, the Spruce Kings will play their last four games at home, a potential advantage heading into playoffs.

For the Kings, the four-game pre-season gets underway with a pair of neutral-site games in Chase against the Smoke Eaters (Aug. 28-29). The Spruce Kings will also take on the Grande Prairie Storm of the Alberta Junior Hockey League in an Aug. 31-Sept. 1 doubleheader. The first game will be in Grande Prairie and the capper will be in Prince George.
