Pool to reopen Friday

Those looking to find some liquid leisure will have to make other arrangements.

The Four Seasons Leisure Pool will remain closed for the rest of the day and reopen Friday morning.

On Wednesday afternoon, the pool was evacuated after a strong chemical smell filled the facility. Nineteen people were taken to hospital as a precaution, but there were no injuries or other health concerns reported.

Since that time, Prince George Fire Rescue has finished its investigation and declared the building safe. Representatives from Northern Health were on site Thursday morning and also gave the all clear.

"A Northern Health water engineer and environmental health officer have assessed the situation at the Four Seasons Pool, and they support the city's decision to reopen the facility," said northern interior medical health officer Dr. William Osei.

The odour has since cleared out, but staff will spend the remainder of the day on routine cleaning and maintenance to ready the pool for tomorrow's opening.
