RCMP briefs

Strong winds believed to have flipped trailer on Alaska Highway

Police believe strong winds resulted in a truck and the holiday trailer it was pulling flipping over into a ditch along the Alaska Highway on Monday.

Dawson Creek RCMP the Taylor Fire Department responded to the single-vehicle rollover on the highway near the intersection with Road 226. An investigator noted a strong crosswind when he arrived at the scene, and police learned from witnesses that the trailer had begun to sway before the vehicle lost control, crossed into the oncoming lane and then rolled into the ditch.

Seatbelt use was credited with allowing the occupants of the truck to escape serious injury. The trailer, however, was totally destroyed, and the truck towing the trailer was heavily damaged.

Dawson Creek RCMP search for tire slashers

Dawson Creek RCMP are asking for the public assistance in identifying the culprit(s) responsible for a rash of tire slashings in the northwest part of the city that occurred between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

Complaints were received about three separate vehicles having multiple tires slashed.

Police are asking that neighbourhoods keep an eye out for suspicious behaviour, and that anyone with information about these incidents contact the local detachment at 250-784-3700 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
