Alberta competitors took over the podium during the Western Canada Classic Horseshoe tournament in Prince George.

Alberta players earned the top prize in the men's and women's A events and in three of four men's senior events.

Steve Moody of Wetaskiwin, Alta., beat out Prince George's Vic Vallee in the men's A event with another Albertan, Ray Madu, placing third. In the men's B and C events it was Alberta sweeps.

The ladies A event winner was Jane Cordingley, while Quesnel's Helene Boudreau and Prince George's Ida Boschman were second and third, respectively. In the B and C events only Elaine Stern of Abbotsford prevented an Alberta sweep by taking second place in the B event.

In the senior men's 40-plus category Orlando Peilizzari of Quesnel took the prize, while Bob Price of Terrace took third place in the senior men's 30-plus B event. In the C event, J.P. Bourgoin of Terrace was second and Irvine Thorpe of Abbotsford was third.

There were 45 competitors from BC and Alberta taking part in the two-day event in the horseshoe pits beside the Prince George BMX track. Before the individual competition started Saturday, a team challenge pitted BC against Alberta on Friday evening. BC earned the win.
