Premier pays visit to Barkerville

Premier Christy Clark is hoping there's gold in them hills.

On Wednesday, Clark and seven members of the Liberal cabinet will descend on Barkerville Historic Town to tour the site as it celebrates its 150th anniversary.

"She's going to come and do a bit of gold panning with our world champion gold panner at the El Dorado and then take a bit of a tour of the town," said James Douglas, Barkerville's public relations manager.

Clark and her entourage will be at the site, located 80 kilometres east of Quesnel, between 1 and 3:30 p.m. Douglas said there will be reception for her at the Wake Up Jake restaurant and that the Premier will also tour the site's Chee Kung Tong national historic site.

"And of course, it's just an opportunity to meet all the people in town and a lot of the school kids that will be in for the school programs as well," Douglas said.

During the week this time of year, the tourist attraction is populated by school groups and those looking to travel outside of the main summer seasons, explained Douglas.
