For the first time in nearly 50 years, Prince George's war veterans won't have a place of their own in which to gather.
The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 43 held an emergency meeting yesterday to decide the fate of the Legion building on Seventh Avenue, which the executive has been trying to sell for a year with hopes of moving to a smaller building.
Since no buyer has come forward, the Legion has decided to close building at the end of April after nearly 50 years in operation.
The two-storey building offers 20,000 square feet, but the organization would prefer a one-story home of about 8,000 square feet.
"It's too large for our membership and our uses with the exception of Remembrance Day," said John Scott, second vice-president and chair of the housing committee, in February, 2011.
