Braun the queen of the horseshoe pit

    Maureen Braun, provincial champion.

It has a nice ring to it, just like the sound a perfectly-thrown horseshoe makes on impact.

Braun captured the women's Class D title on the weekend at the provincial tournament, held at the Prince George Horseshoe Club facility in Carrie Jane Gray Park.

Braun was a perfect 9-0 in the competition to easily outdistance fellow Prince Georgian Benita Karlson, who came in second.

In Class E, Alice LaFlamme of Prince George came in second spot, while Helene Boudreau of Quesnel was second in the Class C event. Ida Boschman of Prince George was fifth in Class A, and Elaine Stern of the city was second in Class B.

In the men's category, Vic Vallee of Prince George finished second in Class A, losing in a playoff against Tom Moffatt of Victoria. In Class B, Bob Taschner of Prince George was fourth and Mike Cunningham fifth, with Sane Michielin of Victoria taking top spot. Herb Boschman was fourth in Class D, two spots ahead of Brent Colebank; Esko Karlson finished fifth in Class E; and Kurt Breuer was third in Class F.
