42 year old dies in fiery crash

Police Services in the Northwest received report of a single vehicle crash on Highway 16 just west of Gitsequkla on Sept. 2 at approximately 1:20 a.m. The collision occurred east of Kitwanga, in the New Hazelton RCMP Detachment area.

The collision involved a brown 2007 Ford, travelling eastbound on Highway 16. The car lost control, travelling off road right. After spinning and rolling, with multiple impacts, it then crossed the highway and came to rest on the shoulder of the westbound lane. It then ignited into flames and was destroyed by the fire.

Two occupants, one female and one male, both residing in South Hazelton, were out of the vehicle when emergency personnel arrived at the scene. Emergency Services (police, fire, ambulance) attended to find the vehicle on fire.

A 42 year old female occupant of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene and the 44 year old male occupant is credited with pulling her from the vehicle. The male was transported to the Wrinch Memorial Hospital in South Hazelton and was treated for non-life threatening injuries. He has since been released on his own accord.

The deceased female has been identified as Rubyann Marie Campbell of South Hazelton.

Anyone who may have witnessed this collision or with any information that may assist the police in establishing what happened prior to the collision, are asked to contact the New Hazelton Detachment at Tel# (250) 842-5244.
