Williams Lake man dead after falling into river

A Williams Lake man has died after falling into the Chilcotin River during a fishing expedition near Farewell Canyon at about 8 Saturday night.

While dip netting salmon at the Farewell Canyon bridge and tied to a safety line the 55-year-old man fell into the water and his family was not able to pull him up immediately.

He was eventually pulled from the water unconscious. Attempts were made by bystanders to resuscitate the man but they were unsuccessful.

Ambulance paramedics arrived and determined the man was deceased at the scene.

No name is being released at this time.

Williams Lake RCMP are no longer investigating this sudden death.
