The Prince George Fury planned a second season. If its to happen, it wont be in the Canadian Major Indoor Soccer League.
Mel Kowalchuk, the president of the CMISL, said late Wednesday that planning has started for the 2011 season, and Prince George is not part of that effort.
At this point in time, we wont be going back to Prince George, no, said Kowalchuk, who is based in Edmonton.
We had a talk with (Fury owner John Mehrassa), and thats what was decided and we havent heard from John since. Were working on finalizing things, deciding who will go ahead for the coming season, but Prince George wont be a part of it.
Mehrassa could not be reached for comment, but sources in the local soccer community all indicated that no one was expecting the semi-pro team -- Fury players were not paid for their services -- to resurface. Mehrassas cell phone is out of service, and he did not reply to emails.
Kowalchuk said Mehrassa was told of the leagues decision to revoke the franchise during a season-ending conference call involving other owners. Kowalchuk added that Mehrassa did not seem ready to continue this year, making it a mutual parting of the ways.
