    QUESTION OF THE WEEK

    Be courteous

I am a parent to four teens, two of whom are learning to drive.

What I have experienced from some drivers in our city is the complete lack of respect afforded to new drivers. In one instance, an off-duty fireman followed dangerously close to our back bumper; in another, a tow truck driver blasted his horn at my daughter at an intersection.

I assume both were in a hurry and were frustrated with my daughter, who was obeying the speed limit. As parents, we are trying to teach our kids to be cautious, courteous and safe drivers. When driving, if you see a vehicle with an “L” doing the speed limit or taking extra time at an intersection, please try to be supportive and don’t add to the level of anxiety by following too close or blasting your horn.

The parents in the passenger seats will certainly appreciate your patience and understanding.
