Former student at Duchess Park secondary, Kelsey Chapman, 20, who is now at UBC taking a bachelor of Science degree, will receive the Gold Level Certificate of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award during a ceremony on Friday in the auditorium of Point Grey secondary school, Vancouver.
The award will be presented to Chapman by His Royal Highness, The Prince Edward Earl of Wessex.
In order to achieve the gold level certificate Chapman had to perform 60 hours of community services, which she did at a hospital emergency room and exercising horses that would not ordinarily be ridden. She did a social adaptability five-day stay at a boarding school residence, a new-skills component where she chose pistol shooting, and participated in two adventure journeys, one to Stuart Lake, one to Bowron Lake.
Chapman also participated in physical recreation that included 50 hours of activity over 25 weeks and participated in the National Junior competition, for those under 21 years old, in modern pentathlon placing third, which allows her the opportunity to attend the Junior World's in Budapest in July.
