For the 33rd time Studio Fair, presented by the Community Arts Council of Prince George and District, will offer patrons the opportunity to attend northern B.C.'s biggest juried art show.
The Civic Centre will see more than 75 artisans from all over Canada, as well as local arts groups, display their wares today to Sunday.
The annual event is a major fundraiser for the Community Arts Council in order to see arts promoted in the community through programs like Artists in the Schools, continue regular operations and offer many services to Prince George, said Tracy McCall, arts co-ordinator at the Community Arts Council.
Last year more than 10,000 people attended Studio Fair and the same numbers are expected this year. To help alleviate the wait time in long line ups for ticket purchase, patrons are invited to buy their passes in advance at Studio 2880, home of the Community Arts Council at 2880-15th Avenue. At the fair there will be an express line for ticket holders.
There's going to be a bit more room to move at this year's Studio Fair, said McCall. There will be many corner booths, more space in the aisles and the Civic Centre foyer will be left open for people to sit and relax near the concession as well as enjoy some entertainment by community groups, including the Prince George Symphony Orchestra and the Prince George Community Band.
There will be a grand opening Friday at 9 a.m., an hour before Studio Fair officially opens to the public and the Community Arts Council is inviting seniors as well as anyone with mobility issues that require wheelchair accessibility to attend the art show when it's less crowded, McCall said.
"This year we're offering child-minding services in Room 201, led by our early childhood education teacher," said McCall. "The service is offered by donation."
Studio Fair takes place today from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $3 for adults, $2 for students and seniors and children 12 and under are free. Tickets in advance are at Studio 2880, 2280-15th Avenue.
