Trailer Park Boys to tear up P.G Bubbles is worried about performing for two hours, so he figures a puppet show might help pass the time during the Trailer Park Boys Community Service Variety Show at Vanier Hall Nov. 16.
Ricky, Bubbles and Julian are famous for their shenanigans at Sunnyvale Trailer Park. The trailer park lifestyle was mockumented during the popular television series the Trailer Park Boys that had a strong cult following right up to its 2007 end. The show followed the threesome as they came up with outrageous money-making schemes usually developed under a haze of pot smoke and ending up in jail.
Recently, all three actors spoke to The Citizen in character about their upcoming Community Service Variety Show.
The show offers up an alternative to jail for the boys, said Bubbles.
"Ricky got us in trouble with the law here and the judge was going to put us in jail, but I begged him not to, so he said if we did the community service variety show around the country that would count towards our hours," said Bubbles, played by Mike Smith. "Two hours on stage means two hours not in jail. I think it's a great deal for me 'cause I hate jail. These guys didn't care and would rather go to jail, but I don't like jail so I'm doing this. Jail's just not my cuppa tea. You only get a little cell and none of my kitties are in there."
Bubbles built some puppets so he's getting Ricky and Julian to participate in his puppet show.
"We're going to try to tell people that drugs and liquor are bad things to ingest," said Bubbles.
"They're saying it's not gonna happen, but I guarantee you they will have puppets on their hands that night or they'll get booted - hard on the shins."
In an effort to fill the two hour show, Bubbles made another suggestion.
"Maybe I can get the crowd up and have a tickle fight with some of them," said Bubbles. "A tickle fight actually sounds like a good idea - maybe Bubbles versus three ladies or something."
Ricky's got other ideas.
"Well I'm not going to have a puppet on my hand and if it goes my way I will be the drunkest man in the place and on drugs, I hope," Ricky said, played by Robb Wells.
The variety show is supposed to deter people from using drugs and alcohol.
"The only problem is, once people see me drunk and on drugs and it looks like a good time, I think they're gonna wanna get on drugs themselves," said Ricky.
Julian is of the same mind as Ricky.
"I'm definitely not playing with puppets," said Julian. "That's one thing that's not going to happen. And I'm basically going to be there to make sure Ricky doesn't screw up and get on drugs and alcohol."
The Trailer Park Boys said they have lots of stuff coming up.
"Ricky's got a crop of weed that's going to be ready in about 32 days and we're happy about that - just before Christmas," said Julian, played by John Paul Tremblay. "And then we'll try to get another crop going right after that. I don't know, I'm trying to work out some kind of a scam that's going to make me at least a million bucks."
Julian said he's been watching a lot of robbery-type shows to get ideas for his next big heist.
"That's the thing, we've learned what doesn't work, so we gotta work on things that will work now," he added.
The Community Service Variety Show goes at Vanier Hall Nov. 16 and the boys have a message for the people of Prince George.
"We're travelling a fair clip to get out there so we want everyone to come out and party with us," Julian said.
