An endowment bursary created in memory of college student, the late Dillon Adey, has been boosted to more than $27,000 with a $5,000 donation from CN Rail. Adey died June 1 when his motorcycle ran into the back of an SUV on Tabor Boulevard near Otway Road in Prince George. Since the death of the 21-year-old, the community has rallied around his family, holding several fundraising events with all proceeds going into an endowment fund at CNC where Adey was a former student. The donation by CN Rail has raised the total to $27,528.50 of which the earned interest will annually go to a needy student who cannot otherwise afford to attend college. Dillon's father, Perry said it is "unbelievable for CN to do this." "CN is part of our family history. Dillon was a fourth generation employee who worked there for three years." The family's four generations of work years total about 160 years with CN Rail. Perry also intends to lobby the province to establish the Dillon Adey law that would require more mandatory training to acquire a licence to operate a motorcycle. "Right now they only need limited training if they have a driver's licence, but these machines can be very dangerous and the more training the better," Perry said. btrick@pgcitizen.ca
