More than 60 recommendations produced by the mayor's task force for a better downtown were approved in principle by city council Monday. Also given the greenlight were a slate of actions to be implemented immediately, many of which are a call to develop the item to be implemented. For example, the council's endorsement gives the task force the go-ahead to develop an implementation model that ensures there is a "keeper of the vision" so the plan is not forgotten. The task force will also be leading the development of a marketing plan for the downtown, and the development of special economic development districts. A Citizen review has already shown there has been numerous plans to revitalize downtown in the past 40 years, including at least three major efforts in the past two decades alone. While some elements have been implemented, the revitalization plans have largely been unsuccessful.

I would like to see downtown revitalized---but
"IT AIN'T GONNA' HAPPEN."
Many buildings are past the restoration point.
An investor would hardly be inclined to sink his money in that cesspool.
Clean up is unlikely when the area invites unsavory characters to roam the streets.
Let the ship sink-don't keep sending out a crew to keep it afloat--there is not even anything left to salvage.
Or is this another manner in which to spend the taxpayers money with no return??
