There is a new trades training facility to be built at the College of New Caledonia's campus in Quesnel.
The $9.8 million facility will create more than 62 jobs. The new building, to be completed in February 2011, will have more than 2,660 square metres of instructional shops, classroom, lab and office space and will accommodate a variety of trades and technical programs, including welding, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, mechanics, power engineer, agro-forestry, horitculture and animal science.
When this facility is complete it will more than double the current spaces at the Quesnel campus, going from 136 full-time equivalent students to 276 and will have capacity for another 14 instructor and staff positions.
"It's wonderful to be a step closer to providing improved and expanded instructional space for our students," said CNC president John Bowman. "Provincial and federal representatives really fought hard for this funding and we very much appreciate their efforts."
The CNC project is one of 40 projects at post secondary institutions across the province funded through a joint federal-provincial investment of $497 million. The total investment in these projects is $519 million including contributions from institutions.
These projects are also part of an overall $14 billion capital infrastructure program supported by the province that will create up to 88,000 jobs and help build vital public infrastructure in every region of B.C.
