The stage is now set.
Bragging rights for the year are on line starting next week now that the two-time defending-champion Steamers Pub Devils know who they will be playing in the Prince George Senior Lacrosse Association playoff final.
The Little Caesar’s Assault booked themselves a spot in the PGSLA showcase series after eliminating the BX Pub Bandits in four games with an 11-10 victory Thursday night at Kin 1.
Chad Martin’s second goal of the game stood as the series winner.
He capped the scoring with 7:42 left in the third period.
The Assault trailed 6-4 after two periods and the Bandits padded their lead to 10-6 when Assault goalie Blake Buckham came to the bench for a breather and a pep talk from coach Brian Stanley.
The strategy worked.
Little Caesar’s took advantage of their power-play time while Brock Strachan served a four-minute roughing penalty and scored twice to make it a 10-8 count. Dave Keough tied it with his second of the night.
Clarke Anderson was the Assault’s big gun, with three goals and one assist, while Dave Jenkins scored once and set up five others. Craig Dunfield scored twice, and Darren Cropley also found a way to beat Bandits goalie Tyler Gould.
At the other end of the floor, Mitch Marsolais paced the Bandits with three goals, Mike Engbrecht, and Drew Doig scored twice, and Ryan Waddington, Travis Paciejewski and Sean Ireland fired singles.
The Bandits were without Jeff Moleski, who had a seven-point night in a 15-10 win in Game 3 of the series on Tuesday.
In the other PGSLA semifinal series, the Devils swept the Westcana Electric/Tabor Sports Pub Stylers in three straight games, winning 27-12 in Game 3 on Tuesday.
The best-of-seven final series starts Monday at 8:05 p.m. at Kin 1.
The games will be broadcast on CFIS 93.1 FM and webcast at www.cfisfm.com.
Ron Gallo will provide the play-by-play descriptions and PGSLA commissioner Glen “Moose” Scott will be on hand for the colour commentary.
