file photoThe PRIDE parade will take place Saturday beginning at City Hall at 11:30 a.m. and end at the Community Foundation Park with festivities continuing there until 3 p.m.
The ultimate drag show of the year will be held Friday night in the Skylight ballroom at the Ramada Hotel to kick off the PRIDE Festival, said the organizer. "We're going to change the atmosphere," said Valentine Crawford. "We're going to class it up a bit. We want to change the dynamics to broaden our audience." The PRIDE festival is in its 13th year and the celebration will continue on Saturday with the PRIDE Parade, which Crawford said is the largest LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender, Queer) event in the north. The parade begins at City Hall at 11:30 a.m. and will end at the Community Foundation Park, by the Terry Fox statue, with activities continuing until about 3 p.m. There will be speeches, live entertainment, information booths, a barbecue and a community banner that people can write on in order to Show Us Your PRIDE. "The PRIDE festival brings the community together for fun, food, and entertainment," said Crawford. "People will bring their children down to enjoy the festival. I encourage people to come and experience it. I've always been told the gay community knows how to throw a party." The Prism Film Festival takes place Saturday night from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the College of New Caledonia. Then the PRIDE dance 2009, Night at the Shahairazed will take place at the Civic Centre from 8 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. All ages are welcome to attend and the special guest performance will be by the Zahirah Middle Eastern Belly Dancers. "All the events have a non-judgmental atmosphere and everyone is welcome to attend," said Crawford. For more information visit the Prince George PRIDE society website www.pgpride.com.

Hmm the family went out to see the parade today (June 4th), no body there.
Checked the Pride Website and the parade is next weekend. Way to go PGCitizen, the events are spread out over several weeks not one weekend. Keep up the good work.
