It doesn't matter where Jesse Pettis races, he always seems to find the fastest way to the finish line. The 12-year old from Prince George kept up his winning ways Thursday in the Canadian Motorsport Racing Club (CMRC) Western Canadian series races in Raymond, Alta., capturing the 65cc (7-11-year-old) and 85cc (7-11) titles in the opener of a three-day event. While sweating out a dry and dusty 32C day at the track, Pettis won both his 65cc motos ahead of 25 other riders, and topped the 40-rider field in both 85cc motos. "He had a hard time in the 85cc -- he beat a kid from Manitoba by about two seconds in that (12-minute) race," said Doug Pettis, Jesse's father. "Jess got the hole shot and had the lead until he wobbled, and then the other guy wobbled and Jess got back in front." Jesse Pettis has posted some impressive results riding Kawasakis this season in national series races, winning 85cc and super-mini titles in Kamloops and Edmonton. He and his family have logged 30,000 miles this year, attending races as far away as California. Pettis is scheduled to travel to Walton, Ont., for the Canadian grand national championships which start Aug. 10. In other local results from Raymond Thursday, 12-year-old Suzuki rider Sara King of Fort St. James placed second in the ladies B class, and was 21st overall in the super-mini B class after get tangled in a multi-bike pileup. Racing resumes today and Saturday.
