After 24 minutes of cross-country mountain bike racing, covering five kilometres of single-track trails, twisting hillclimbs and several high-speed descents, there was no separating Kris Yip and Sullivan Reed. They crossed the finish line simultaneously in 24:09 and earned a share of the winners circle at Otway Nordic Centre in the Prince George Cycling Clubs first fat tire event of the season. The two-lap event drew eight riders, while five took part in the single-lap race. Prince George Alpine Ski Racers team member Will Andal clocked 26:45 in third place, 2:34 off the winning pace. Nicole LeBlanc (30:19) won the womens two-lap race in sixth place overall. Other finishers were: Merle Tutte, fourth overall in 27:05; Erich Zwick, fifth in 28:00; and Philip Rice, seventh in 31:26. Kevin Flanagan won the 2.5km race in 14:20, followed by Brett Woods (15:35) and Adam Spensely (15:39). Tara Box was the top female in the one-lap event in 17:14, followed by 12-year-old Lynden Tretiak (24:25). The next cross-country race is set for Tuesday, July 28. Registration starts at 6 p.m. and the race follows at 7. A race is also scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 25. The PGCCs Tour de Jasper, a supported ride from Prince George to Jasper, leaves the city on Wednesday, July 8. Cyclists will ride for four days, then return to Prince George on a VIA train.
